Soderbergh overrated? Oh please. The man is an interesting filmmaker with a good sense of humour.

These days I appreciate the amount of work that goes into even the worst film, and I find it vaguely pathetic when people come on here and diss people like Robert De Niro. LIke, who the **** are you?

Peter Jackson is a legend soley for Lord of THe Rings. It's a mammoth achievement, one that that no one on this board will ever come close to.

People are intitled to their opinions, but at the end of the day, that's all they are. While you're sitting at home typing away on your computer, the people you're slagging have gone out and done something. You'd love to be in Spielbergs shoes, you'd just love it.

The only opinions that really matter are those in the history books (yes, even film history books). That is what your children will learn from.

Frankly, I think every thing about filmmaking is overrated. It generates and feeds from its own percieved value of kudos.

Gordon Gecko sums it up great in Wall Street when he talks about the art in his apartment. Not that I can remember what he actually said, but it has left the impression.

At the end of the day, filmmaking is just another job. Get over it.

And who the h-ell are you to say what people on this board can or will achieve? Most in here are in their early twenties and trying to get into the industry.
Some have already made their blood drenched horrors (such as braindead and bad taste - Peter Jackson)
and may soon move onto their first good budget work (Frighteners and Heavenly Creatures - Peter Jackson)
before finally doing their massive back to back epic trilogy (Lord of the Rings - Peter Jackson)

Although i'm not sure there are too many trilogy's left that are so tedious( an opinion, of mine, which i will stick to regardless of how many people tell me im not allowed)

There may well be the next Peter Jackson in this forum right now

But if he listens to people who tell him he can't air his opinions and engage in debate in a public forum designed for the purpose he we soon become a generic corporate carbon copy whose talent will wither and die.

Indeed, It is I who have seen the light. All films are actually shite , the film world, nay the planet is overated and I could do better, much better, but unfortunatly you can't actually see any of my stuff right now, cos it's, um, "in development."

As for aspiring filmmakers on the board I fear my myopia has again confounded my senses. I no longer have a doubt that every man, woman or dog who ever posted anything on this board will go on to everlasting success. Amazing artists like that Rodriguez hand shaking bloke, Foolmaster,Snaart-the list goes on.

After all it's not a tiny fraction that make it, everyone can make if they "just believe." Khrist, can you hear the music swelling, can you feel the redemption?! LIfe is one big movie man, we can make a difference! I just know it!

Despin is right. Ratner is the one who can show us the way. Hel I havn't even see Red Dragon and I know it's genius.

I duly accept your praise for my sarcasm, you're right, it was good.

Congratulations on your illumination, the planet is indeed overrated and as anyone inside the industry, including Spielberg and Deniro, would tell you, most films do **** and it's all about those that don't and about eliciting a RESPONSE from the audience.

You could indeed do better, for example most come here to discuss, not to insult. Perhaps instead you could go get your stuff OUT of development.

Let me head you off at the pass on your response to that one. I am here, insulting you back, as a 10 minute break from 12 hours work on my first feature script, which, partly funded, will go into production in 7 months. The title is "Crime Bites" i'll let you know should it change.

It is not a tiny fraction of those that try that make it in the film industry. It is far far less than that.

That doesn't mean that none of those here are in that fraction (if you have a time machine...can i have one?)

The THREE members you mention i do not know. They may or may not be the most likely candidates but in a world where Michael Bay is a director, George W Bush is allowed out of the attic and skinheads can string sentences together anything is possible

As for the cheesy, music swelling happy ever after, that's a good feeling, and something that movies often used to leave you with, until one critic who didnt like Robin Williams decided that any film that was "sentimental" was instantly bad, and the people of the world, informed by you that their opinion was unimportant, blindly followed. "YES MASTER".
